Contributors
Michael Callahan Michael is a writer, actor, composer and musician. His writings have been published in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Quad City Times and the River Cities Reader. He has also been a two time winner of the Quad City Playwright competition. He is currently working on a full length play "The Harvest", a young adult trilogy of novels "The Lieberfreidenken" and two musicals. His story "Xuxores" can be found on Page 13 of Volume 1.
John T. Hawkins John is a native of San Diego, CA and majored in Communications at San Diego Mesa College. After moving to Rock Island, IL, John studied writing and communications at Black Hawk College. John's literary influences include Robin Cook and Stephen King. He enjoys participating in outdoor activities with friends, especially disc golf and mountain biking. His story "Modus Operandi" can be found on Page 1 of Volume 1.
Lucas Jordan Lucas is a California transplant to Copper Harbor, MI who spends most of the winter snowboarding Mount Bohemia or snowmobiling. In his downtime, he listens to rock music, doodles, and attempts to write poetry. His haiku for Dark Highlands Anthology is the first piece he's ever submitted for anything and he's very excited to be a part of the premiere volume. His haiku can be found on Page 34 of Volume 1.
David James Keaton David's fiction has appeared in Big Pulp, Six Sentences, Pulp Pusher, Espresso Stories, and Crooked. He is also a contributor to The College Rag and the University of Pittsburgh's online journal Hot Metal Bridge. He has scribbled enough pages for five novels and is constantly rewriting three screenplays: a prison movie, a thriller, and a western. He lives in Pennsylvania. Gregory Lewis Gregory is a Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native and lives there with his wife Deborah and their daughter, Lauren. Greg has a degree in English Education from the University of Northern Iowa. He currently works in business services for US Cellular. His inspirations include writers Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, and his favorite holiday: Halloween. His story "The Best Horror" can be found on Page 39 of Volume 1.
Dick Michener Dick has published many short fiction and nonfiction pieces in the USA, Canada, Australia, and England. Some of them have been included in two anthologies: Lights In The Mountains; and Echoes Across The Blue Ridge. He provides a column for each issue of the Tennessee Writer. Joyce Paustian Joyce is a Davenport, Iowa native who currently works for the Federal Government as a Budget Analyst. Her hobbies include photography, following wrestling, and pop-culture, especially 60's TV. Dark Shadows, Batman, and the Twilight Zone are among her favorite old shows. In her spare time, she writes and provides photos for various wrestling publications and websites. Her haiku can be found on Page 34 of Volume 1.
Alissa Rindels Alissa is an artist from the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. Her artwork is available on her website www.direatrium.com, Ebay, and various online art galleries. What draws her to art is the unlimited possibilities of contrast---light vs. dark, violence and romance, ugliness and beauty, the allure of the villain. Charles Ross Charles is a 31-year-old computer tech who loves making art. Most of his work lately has been digital art using ArtRage Studio Pro and Adobe Illustrator. KatyLee Underhill KatyLee is a home-schooled high school freshman. She has been writing poetry since the fourth grade and hopes to make it as a professional writer someday. As a fallback, she is planning to get a degree in biomedical engineering. Her hobbies include fencing, scuba diving for 'treasure' in Lake Geneva, and "all things Stephen King." Her haiku can be found on Page 34 of Volume 1.
Monica Veraguth Striving to create artwork that stirs emotion, Monica often uses exaggerated colors and free-flowing brush strokes in a gestural impressionistic style, emphasizing depth and movement. Monica is currently focusing on acrylic on canvas (landscapes, flowers and expressionistic pieces), but also utilizes watercolor, photography and digital art. Monica is located in Winona, Minnesota. Andrew Walters Andrew is a poet, writer, and blogger from Davenport, Iowa. He is currently a full-time student at the University of Iowa as well as a part-time barista. His work has appeared in The Atlas. He enjoys classic novels and zombies. His story "Infinite Regress" can be found on Page 27 of Volume 1.
Bruce Walters For the past three years, Bruce has focused on Halloween in his drawings, paintings and digital artwork - trying to capture a sense of the mystery and eeriness surrounding this surviving link to ancient harvest celebrations and traditions of remembering the dead that reach back millennia. A professor of art at Western Illinois University, Bruce's artwork has been displayed in more than one hundred solo, invitational, and competitive exhibitions.
